Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society | Restoring rail history through immersive dining in Throop
The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society in Throop is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of mid-century American rail travel. Founded in 2001, the group set out to recreate an original Erie Lackawanna passenger train, placing a fully restored dining car at the center of the experience. Their mission is to capture not just the look, but the full experience of 1950s and 1960s rail travel.
Bringing History Back to Life
The society now owns and maintains ten historic passenger cars, with several undergoing careful restoration. From period-specific design details to full-service meals, each element is crafted to reflect the golden age of passenger trains. Stationary dinner events aboard these restored cars allow guests to enjoy fine dining in a nostalgic setting.
Rolling Through the Past
In addition to on-site events, the organization occasionally runs full dinner excursions along the same routes the original Erie Lackawanna trains once traveled. These immersive trips offer a rare glimpse into the past while helping fund continued restoration and preservation efforts.
The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society keeps railroad heritage alive in Throop through authentic experiences, education and historical preservation.
