Mission Statement
Geisinger Health Foundation raises funds to support the programs and services of Geisinger and to strengthen the mission of providing world-class care close to home, educating the healthcare teams of tomorrow, and innovating how care is delivered across the region, including our most vulnerable and underserved populations.
Geisinger Health Foundation’s fundraising priorities align with the system’s five key pillars: kindness, excellence, safety, learning and innovation. This nonprofit helps Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton maintain their exceptional care, innovative programs and state-of-the-art facilities.
Kindness
Geisinger Health Foundation supports patients, their families, friends and community members with programs that create healthier, kinder places to live and work. They support programs and initiatives that impact how a patient feels about the care they receive, like providing iPads and iPods in in-patient rooms, installing sky ceilings in MRI exam rooms and supporting Child Life Programs in pediatric units. They also train their caregivers in empathy and “soft skills” and teach bedside education to medical students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
Excellence
Geisinger Health Foundation raises funds for programs that promote clinical excellence and provides the resources for the highest quality of clinical care to patients.
Safety
The foundation works to provide clinical team members the resources they need to ensure that patient safety is at the forefront of care. Programs like the Child Safety and Advocacy Institute promote safety and learning for caregivers, patients and communities.
Learning
Geisinger Health Foundation raises funds for programs that educate today’s caregivers and prepare the healthcare team of tomorrow. Gifts from the community provide scholarships for students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and offer tuition aid for continuing education and ongoing professional development for nurses and current staff. They help fund research to improve on existing knowledge in the medical field. The foundation also reaches out to the community with health education classes.
Innovation
The foundation engages community members to assist with programs and research initiatives like The Steele Center for Innovation, which spearheaded projects like Springboard Healthy Scranton and the Fresh Food Farmacy®.
