Mission Statement
The mission of The Barbuti Kitten Academy & Charm School is simple but intentional: to relieve pressure on local rescues and animal advocates by focusing on an often-overlooked niche. The organization provides care for pregnant and nursing cats and their litters, supports undersocialized and fearful kittens who need structured, patient socialization through its “Charm School,” and assists with Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) efforts, including trapping support, recovery space and coordination.

The Barbuti Kitten Academy & Charm School in Avoca is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna and Wayne counties. The organization focuses on some of the most vulnerable cats in Northeastern Pennsylvania, including pregnant cats, nursing mothers, undersocialized kittens and kittens separated from their mothers too early.
Operating through a network of dedicated foster homes, they provide safe housing, daily care and socialization for cats in its program. Volunteers coordinate veterinary services and offer the hands-on support many young kittens require to grow into healthy companion animals.
Specialized Care for Vulnerable Kittens
Many kittens entering the program require intensive attention and behavioral support. These animals often arrive without proper socialization or have been abandoned during early development.
The Barbuti Kitten Academy provides patient, structured care designed to build trust and confidence. This approach helps prepare kittens for successful adoption into permanent homes.

Traditional shelters often must focus on high intake and rapid placement due to space and resource limitations. The Academy helps fill an important gap by caring for cases that require additional time and individualized attention.
