The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was created to preserve a rare—and beautiful—historical and cultural resource in the Endless Mountains of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.
The Dennis Farm was originally settled in 1793 by Prince Perkins, a free African American and Revolutionary War veteran. His direct descendants have retained stewardship of the beautiful, 153-acre property in Susquehanna County to the present day. The history of the Dennis Farm and the Perkins-Dennis family is fully documented and represents a little-known and remarkable story in American history.
The purpose of The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust is to develop the farm into an educational and cultural site for scholars, researchers, educators, cultural heritage tourists, school groups and others interested in this extraordinary history. Their projects and initiatives include restoring the historic nineteenth-century farmhouse for reuse as a museum and constructing an interpretive center. They also lead educational initiatives with several colleges and universities.
