Mission Statement

Wyoming County Historical Society collects and preserves printed documents and museum pieces which establish and illustrate our local heritage.

Wyoming County Historical Society is a group of passionate and dedicated members who help preserve Wyoming County history and make historical information available to the public. Located in Tunkhannock, the society maintains a genealogical research library and museum.

The library offers a significant source of research material to the public. The collection includes books on New England ancestry, newspapers dating back to 1797 and census records for Wyoming and surrounding counties from 1790 to 1930. Also on file are records for over 90 area cemeteries as well as other information about local history.

The museum holds and displays historical items from Wyoming County and surrounding areas. The collection includes Native American artifacts and items from the Civil War, WWI and WWII. There is also a tool collection of early machinery, historic clothing, and more pieces of history.

The library’s hours change seasonally, and the museum is open by appointment for tours. Wyoming County Historical Society frequently participates in and hosts fairs, festivals and other events.
