We’re partnering with Northeast Sight Services to share valuable resources on vision care, education and blindness prevention initiatives. From specialized children’s programs to essential support services, their mission helps individuals of all ages maintain eye health and independence.

What is Low Vision?

Low vision is a permanent visual impairment that cannot be fully corrected with glasses, contact lenses or surgery. Unlike total blindness, individuals with low vision retain some degree of sight, but their impairment can significantly impact everyday activities such as reading, driving and recognizing faces.

This condition can manifest in different ways, including peripheral vision loss, blind spots or blurred vision. Some individuals may still see well in certain situations but struggle with specific tasks. If you or someone you love has low vision, understanding the available resources and support services can make a world of difference.

Vision Rehabilitation Therapy

The best method to adapt to life with low vision is Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT). VRT functions similarly to occupational therapy but focuses on adapting to vision loss. This program helps individuals develop strategies to maximize their remaining sight and gain confidence in navigating daily life. Through a combination of assistive devices and hands-on training, VRT empowers individuals to maintain independence and a sense of self-worth.
