Growing a Nation: America250PA at the 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show
Each January, the Pennsylvania Farm Show transforms Harrisburg into the beating heart of American agriculture. The largest indoor agricultural exposition in the nation, the Farm Show brings together farmers, families, artisans, educators, and visitors from every corner of the Commonwealth. From the food and livestock competitions to hands-on exhibits and generations-deep traditions, it is a week that celebrates the industry that feeds us, employs nearly half a million Pennsylvanians, and contributes close to $130 billion to our economy.
In 2026, that celebration carries added meaning
As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, this year’s Farm Show theme— “Growing a Nation”—honors the deep connection between Pennsylvania agriculture and the American story itself. While July 4, 1776 may be the date etched into our collective memory, the real work of democracy unfolded far beyond Independence Hall. It happened in our towns, our mills, our barns, and our fields. Everyday Pennsylvanians shaped what this country became, and farmers have always been at the heart of that story.

The Farm Show has reflected that truth since its earliest days
In 1917, hundreds of farmers gathered for the first statewide exhibition. A decade later, the Commonwealth laid the cornerstone for the Main Exhibition Hall, beginning a tradition that would grow into the extraordinary event we know today. Year after year, the Farm Show celebrates the people who sustain our communities and steward the land—connecting generations through shared pride, hard work, and purpose.
As Pennsylvania’s official commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, America250PA is proud to be part of the 2026 Farm Show in several meaningful ways—bringing history, creativity, and connection directly to the public.

One of the Farm Show’s most iconic traditions returns with new meaning in 2026
Artists Jim Victor and Marie Pelton once again bring “Growing a Nation” to life through the beloved butter sculpture. Crafted entirely from donated butter, the sculpture captures Pennsylvania’s agricultural heritage while pointing toward the future. When the Farm Show concludes, the butter is recycled into renewable energy—a reminder that even tradition can be innovative.
The Countdown to 250 Mobile Experiential Unit
Located at the center of the Giant Expo Hall, America250PA’s Countdown to 250 Mobile Experiential Unit, powered by Penske, offers a rolling celebration of America’s 250th birthday and Pennsylvania’s role in that journey. Designed as an interactive experience for all ages, the unit features educational games like Pennsylvania Pursuit and Keystone Quest, and storytelling opportunities through The Commonwealth Chronicles, where visitors can share their own stories for posterity.

No Farm Show visit is complete without a stop for a milkshake
And this year brings a patriotic twist. In partnership with the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and VisitPA, America250PA helped launch a special red, white, and blue milkshake flight, featuring strawberry, vanilla, and blue raspberry. It’s a small moment of joy that blends tradition, creativity, and celebration—just like the Farm Show itself.
The Semiquincentennial Begins Here
The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show marks the beginning of a statewide celebration 250 years in the making. Across all 67 counties and hundreds of communities, America250PA is preparing an EPIC year of engagement that invites Pennsylvanians to learn, serve, reflect, and celebrate together.
