We’ve partnered with America250PA as they make their way through all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. They’re spreading the word about the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States and Pennsylvania’s unique role as the birthplace of democracy in America. Rooted in Revolution, Growing Toward Tomorrow: The Liberty Tree Comes to Wyoming County

If you’ve ever stood beneath a tree and felt something—call it calm, call it awe, call it connection—you already understand the spirit of the Liberty Tree.

On June 7 at 3:00 p.m., in the heart of Wyoming County’s Lazybrook Park, we’ll plant our 53rd Liberty Tree. It’ll look like any other young tulip poplar at first. But its roots run deeper than most. Grown from the graft of a tree that once stood tall through two centuries on the campus of St. John’s College in Annapolis, this sapling carries the legacy of the original Liberty Tree—where revolutionaries once gathered, and where the idea of America took shape, one whispered conversation at a time.

Local dignitaries gather along with members of America250PA team to plant a liberty tree in Bradford County.

The origins of democracy

These living monuments are a reminder that democracy didn’t begin in marble halls in Harrisburg or Washington. It started outdoors, beneath branches, beside neighbors, in moments of courage that didn’t feel historic at the time. Just necessary.

Through our Liberty Tree Project, America250PA—together with our amazing partners at the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania—is working to plant one of these certified Liberty Trees in each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. It’s a simple but powerful way to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. Not just with pomp and parades, but with roots and resolve.

“America250PA is truly a historic Commission that provides the Commonwealth a platform to showcase our Pennsylvania pride on the national stage,” said Cassandra Coleman, Executive Director of America250PA. “We are most appreciative of the partnership with the Pennsylvania Freemasons. Without their support, this project would not be possible.”

And she’s right. This work isn’t possible without partnership. It takes communities who care about where we’ve been and where we’re headed. It takes folks willing to pause and plant something that won’t fully bloom for generations.

Robert Brink, Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, put it plainly: “Many of our nation’s founding fathers were Freemasons, and undoubtedly, they were among the men who met beneath Liberty Trees to plan the revolt and fight for freedom. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to observe the 250th Anniversary of our nation than to beautify our great state and enliven the spirit of patriotism throughout our great Commonwealth.”

We couldn’t agree more.

So, if you find yourself in NEPA this Saturday—whether you’re a history buff, a tree lover, or just someone who believes in what this country can grow into—we hope you’ll join us to celebrate something new and very old.
