Honoring Our Commonwealth Through Service: Pennsylvania Day 2025
There’s something about a Little League game on a summer evening that feels like home. Maybe it’s the smell of freshly cut grass. Maybe it’s the folding chairs, the grandparents, the neighbors. Or maybe it’s the reminder that here in Pennsylvania, we show up for each other.

That spirit is what Pennsylvania Day is all about
Every July 20th, we honor our Commonwealth’s extraordinary contributions to the American story. From the debates that shaped a new nation at Independence Hall to the coal mines that powered our growth, Pennsylvania has always been where big ideas and hard work go hand in hand—and where everyday people rise to meet extraordinary moments.
That’s why, each year leading up to our nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, America250PA is working with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and Feeding Pennsylvania to make Pennsylvania Day into a statewide celebration of service.
In 2025, since July 20 falls on a Sunday, volunteer efforts will take place July 18–19. These events are part of one of the only Semiquincentennial volunteer initiatives in the country—and they’re made possible thanks to support from GIANT, Natural Food Source, EQT, and our incredible nonprofit partners.
Together, we’re rolling up our sleeves—cleaning up parks, supporting food banks, and helping communities shine. In Carbon County, volunteers in Towamensing Township are preparing to upgrade their local baseball fields this summer. With support from one of our mini-grants, they’ll replace old picnic tables and rusted trash cans with new, recycled plastic ones—creating a safer, more welcoming space for families to enjoy the game.
“Volunteerism, neighbors helping neighbors, Pennsylvanians helping Pennsylvanians is exactly how our Commonwealth and our communities have thrived over the last 250 years,” said America250PA Executive Director Cassandra Coleman. “It’s so encouraging to see the impact that each location makes statewide.”
Since the program began, we’ve awarded nearly $70,000 in mini-grants to grassroots projects across dozens of counties. As we look ahead to 2026, our goal is simple: let’s celebrate by doing. From cleaning up parks in McKean to stocking food pantries in Monroe, each PA Day project is a ripple of hope—small acts that add up to a stronger, more connected Pennsylvania.
Right now, we’re inviting you to get involved. Whether it’s an hour or all weekend, there’s a role for everyone. Visit our Pennsylvania Day page to find out how to join the effort in your area.
Because history isn’t just made at places like Valley Forge or Gettysburg. It’s made every day in places like Towamensing. It’s made by volunteers like you who give their time, their talent, and their heart to make our communities the best they can be.
