We’re partnering with Northeast Sight Services to share valuable resources on vision care, education and blindness prevention initiatives. From specialized children’s programs to essential support services, their mission helps individuals of all ages maintain eye health and independence.

More Than A Camp

Each summer, Northeast Sight Services provides an unforgettable and empowering experience for children who are blind or visually impaired through its Summer with InSight – (this is comprised a field trip to the Franklin Institute in June and an Accessible Family Day at Kirby Park in August – along with a two week-long Camp Sight program. This summer experience is more than just an opportunity for fun—it’s a vital step toward building independence, confidence, and a strong sense of community among children with vision impairments.

Camp Sight: Building Confidence and Life Skills

Camp Sight offers a unique environment where children can safely push their boundaries and explore new skills. From learning to navigate outdoor spaces to mastering daily living tasks, campers participate in a wide variety of activities that are both enriching and empowering. With a focus on fostering independence, Camp Sight encourages children to try new things, form meaningful connections, and embrace their abilities.

Through activities like archery, rock climbing, canoeing and an array of arts and crafts activities, participants experience a supportive environment tailored to their specific needs. They’re guided by compassionate staff who understand the unique challenges of vision impairment—and who work hard to create opportunities for personal growth, friendship, and success.

InSight Kids Club: Year-Round Support

While Camp Sight takes place once a year, Northeast Sight Services provides consistent, year-round support through the InSight Kids Club of NEPA, a collaborative program created with Community Services for Sight. This initiative brings children and families together through a combination of social, recreational, and instructional programming that helps foster a well-rounded foundation of life skills and emotional support.

Program highlights include:

  • Family support groups for shared resources and encouragement
  • Field trips and family events that promote connection
  • Monthly group activities, such as attending sporting events, art workshops, and community service projects

The InSight Kids Club, along with Camp Sight, represents Northeast Sight Services’ commitment to helping young individuals with vision impairments reach their full potential.

How the Community Can Help: Chip in for Sight

Programs like Camp Sight and the InSight Kids Club are just a few examples of the vital services Northeast Sight Services offers to people of all ages living with vision loss. And one of the biggest ways the community can help sustain these programs is by participating in the organization’s annual Chip in for Sight Golf Tournament.

Now in its 12th year, the tournament raises funds that support every aspect of the organization’s mission—from vision rehabilitation therapy and independent in-home support to assistive technology training and youth programming, like Camp Sight. Held at the beautifully renovated Wyoming Valley Country Club on Monday, June 16, the event offers an opportunity for the community to unite, enjoy a day of camaraderie, and “chip in” for a great cause.

Through their support on the course, whether by playing, sponsoring, or volunteering, participants are helping Northeast Sight Services continue creating opportunities, breaking down barriers, and improving the lives of those with vision loss in Luzerne, Pike, Wayne and Wyoming counties.
