4 Week Schedule:
Week 1: Sketchbook fun. Students will learn the basics of sketching with a pencil. You will go out in the garden and make some botanical sketches. Students will gain a deeper understanding of line, value, and a variety of ways to make use of the simple pencil.

Week 2: Gouache Painting: Gouache is an opaque watercolor, versatile and fun to use. You will work from your sketches from the week before, as well as painting from life from a still life set up. Weather permitting, you may do some painting out-of-doors. Students will gain an understanding of color mixing and paint application.

Week 3: Collage: Looking at your sketches and paintings from the previous weeks, you will make some collages using painted paper. Students will come away with a deeper understanding of composition.

Week 4: Monotype: You will end the series by learning a simple print-making technique that is messy and fun. Students will learn how to let go of their perfectionism and embrace “happy accidents.”
