Bat-tacular Program with Optional Bat Walk | Van Scott Nature Reserve, Beach Lake
Friday, October 24, 2025 | 5:00 PM Presentation | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Optional Walk
The Bat-tacular Program with Optional Bat Walk will be held at the Van Scott Nature Reserve in Beach Lake on Friday, October 24, 2025, beginning at 5:00 PM. Hosted by the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, this engaging program invites guests to explore the mysterious and often misunderstood world of bats—the only mammals capable of true flight.
During this hour-long presentation, participants will learn about the different species of bats found locally, their unique behaviors, and their essential role in the ecosystem. The talk will also provide practical advice for homeowners who encounter bats and cover important conservation issues, including the impact of White-nose Syndrome.
Following the program, guests are invited to take part in an optional bat walk through the Reserve from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Using a bat frequency reader, participants will have the chance to listen for bats in the area and possibly observe them in flight. While sightings are not guaranteed, the experience offers a unique way to connect with nature after dark.
Attendees planning to join the walk should come prepared for sloped terrain and bring flashlights. Closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.
