Saturday, October 18, 2025 | Departure: 11:00 AM
Travel the Pocono Line aboard a special excursion from Steamtown National Historic Site to Tobyhanna, PA, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. This fall foliage journey highlights the region’s history of ice harvesting and blueberry farming, two industries that once thrived thanks to the railroad.
Upon arrival, visitors will explore the Tobyhanna Train Station, a W-103 frame structure built in 1908 and now operated by the Pocono Rail Historical Society with the National Railway Historical Society. The station houses extensive railroad memorabilia, equipment, photographs, and several model train layouts—including one children can operate—making it a living museum for rail fans of all ages.
Guests can also opt to take the Ice Industry Walking Tour, a half-mile walk to Tobyhanna Millpond #1. There, participants will see century-old tools still used for the annual ice harvest and learn about the vital role the ice industry once played in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Amenities include picnic tables, porta-lavs on excursion days, free parking, and a small gift shop. The station also accepts credit card payments via Square and is located alongside an active freight line for added rail enthusiasm.
