Artist Bio –
Sam’s passion for art began in high school where he was chosen to attend a summer-long workshop at Keystone College with Karl Neuroth. Sam worked to grow and develop his own style without further formal training and has developed an extensive body of work.
Sam’s style, sometimes called abstract realism, includes mainly portrait work in acrylic on canvas and pen and ink. His automotive and architectural works are heavily influenced by his background as a draftsman.
Sam has exhibited in numerous local and regional venues and galleries as well as the Capitol Building in Harrisburg and the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Sam has also exhibited in regional music festivals and his pen and ink work has been featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame’s permanent art collection in Cooperstown, New York. Sam also cartooned for American Machinist and the Pittsburgh-based Dirt Rag.
In retirement, Sam has found more time to devote to his art and his other passion, music. Sam has played drums in various rock and blues bands since the age of 13. And he’s still playing. Just this year, at the age of 70, he was invited to participate in a large, public jam session in California. When he’s not drumming or making art, Sam is an avid bike rider and loves walking at his nearby lake.
