Historian and graveyard preservationist, Les Rohrbach, will share his dedication & passion for helping to restore and preserve the gravesites of Berks County. The Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation was founded in 1994 with the mission of preserving and maintaining historic Berks County graveyards. Most of these graveyards have been left isolated and neglected. Les Rohrbach, current President of BCAGP, joined the association in 2008. He will discuss the circumstances leading to the founding of BCAGP, its early years and how its activities have changed over time. Pictures will illustrate conditions encountered in graveyards and work that has been done.

More than just a final “resting place” for loved ones, cemeteries provide us with a “treasure trove” of historical information. Cemeteries serve as a very tangible link to our past. Like “living museums,” they reflect our local heritage, culture, and history. They are a huge part of our local identity and community pride.

Founded in 1994, the Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation is devoted to the mission of preserving and maintaining historic Berks County graveyards and cemeteries. Preserving cemeteries, graveyards, and the amazing sculptures found among them helps to safeguard our heritage for future generations.
