Celebrate peak monarch migration and learn all about monarchs and their conservation at the Monarch Conservation Station hosted by monarch biologist John Drummond!

John will discuss monarch biology and explain the reasons for the recent decline in the population of monarch butterflies and other pollinators and what you can do to help, including planting milkweed.  Have fun while you use microscopes to examine monarch eggs, caterpillars, chrysalids, and adults.  Join us at the Outdoor Amphitheater for a LIVE monarch tagging demonstration at 1pm, and learn how you can become a citizen scientist yourself, contributing to the overall knowledge base of monarch migration to Mexico.  John will also have information about gardening for monarchs and other native pollinators.

Be sure to stop by the Information Pavilion to see displays, learn about Hawk Mountain’s annual butterfly count and monarch migration data, and leave with FREE milkweed seeds – 5 varieties while supplies last!

Children’s activities will be located near the Amphitheater and will include crafts, puzzles, learning displays, and more. They will be available from 10 am – 3 pm.
