Galileo believed the book of nature is written in the language of mathematics. Homeschool and cyberschool families can join Vosburg Neck State Park on Pi Day to celebrate the collision between math and nature with a pi and circle themed program. This program is geared toward students who have a basic understanding of area and perimeter, as you will be doing some hands-on activities to visually derive the mathematical formulas for circumference and area of a circle, as well as calculating area and circumference for some objects. You’ll go on a hunt for circular objects along the park trails and finish off with some time to create circular art.
This program will be entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather.

We visited one of Wyoming County’s most cherised natural areas, the Howland Preserve. Owned and maintained by The North Branch Land Trust with the assistance of The Friends of Howland Preserve, the land offers beautifully kept trails, a historic barn and access to the river!
