Railfest 2025 | Steamtown National Historic Site, Scranton, PA

Friday–Sunday, August 29–31, 2025 | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Daily

Railfest 2025 returns to Steamtown National Historic Site over Labor Day Weekend—Friday through Sunday, August 29–31, 2025—for three full days celebrating railroading heritage and key milestones in the park’s history.

This year’s festival marks two major anniversaries: the 100th birthday of Grand Trunk Western No. 6039, a high-speed steam locomotive, and the 30th anniversary of Steamtown’s 1995 grand opening. Established as part of the National Park Service in 1986, Steamtown has been a center for preserving and sharing the story of steam railroading in America for nearly four decades.

Festival highlights include:

  • Train rides and locomotive displays
  • Interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages
  • Programs by partner organizations exploring railroad and local history

A free shuttle will run between Steamtown and La Festa Italiana in downtown Scranton, allowing visitors to enjoy both events. The park is also accessible from Lackawanna Avenue via the Marketplace at Steamtown mall bridge.
