If you’re looking for a typical theatrical presentation, this one isn’t it.
“The Irish & How They Got That Way,” is a jovial musical based on the novel by Frank McCourt.

Join Martz Bus on Thursday, March 13 — just in time for St. Paddy’s Day — at the historical Fulton Theatre in Lancaster for this show and dinner.

The venue will be transformed into a working Irish pub for this irreverent history of the Irish through the tumultuous 20th and 21st centuries as told through the eyes of the Pulitzer Prize winning author of “Angela’s Ashes.”

Be prepared for some salty language – the kind you’ll find in a real Irish pub. If this was a film, it would be rated PG-13. Not to mention alcohol, political unrest and some ethnic slurs – so be sure to wear your tough skin. You’ll hear mentions of war, beating, famine, death, poverty and illness.

McCourt’s razor-sharp wit, coupled with his trademark bitter irony and his boundless love for the Irish people, are all underscored by glorious music from the auld Irish folk ballads through George M. Cohan’s patriotic love songs to America to Ireland’s modern-day band U2. That includes World War II standards heard in movies, USOs and foxholes all over the world. Read: “Oh Danny Boy” to “With or Without You.”
So who are the Irish? They are a fun-loving, warm people who live life to the fullest, indulging lustily in good song, good humor and good drink.

This is one of the don’t-miss shows. Irish or not, you’re sure to find it moving, uplifting and eye-opening.
