Discover NEPA is teaming up with Broadway Theatre League of NEPA to give you a sneak peek of the shows from the Great White Way headlining Broadway in Scranton’s performances at the Scranton Cultural Center this season.
The Broadway Show You’ve Been Waiting
Well, the Super Bowl is over, and baseball season hasn’t started yet, so now is a great time to think about going to see a Broadway show. Not just ANY Broadway show, but a Broadway Theatre League of NEPA show.
The National Touring Production of The Addams Family is rolling into Scranton from March 7-9. Since that happens to be St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend, the shows will play Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., so you can enjoy the parade festivities on Saturday afternoon. The Addams Family is such an entertaining show, and all your favorite characters will be there snapping their fingers along with the theme music (you just snapped your fingers too, didn’t you?).
Since we’re in the middle of winter here in the Northeast, you won’t have to worry about driving a long distance to see a Broadway hit. We’re right in your backyard! You can enjoy a first-class meal, a fully staged professional Broadway show and a fantastic night out without leaving your area code.
Ghoulishly Good Entertainment

In an effort not to turn my entire blog into an advertisement for our shows (though I could easily do that, since they’re all fantastic this year), I wanted to give you a little insight into how The Addams Family makes its way across the country to Scranton. While they perform in larger markets like Boston, Detroit, St. Louis, and Dallas, TX, the week they arrive here, their tour route takes them from Kentucky to South Carolina, then North Carolina, and finally to Scranton. They’ll play four shows here before hitting the road again, doing their best to bring this energetic performance to audiences all across the country.
When they arrive in Scranton on Friday, the show’s crew, along with our local professional stagehands, builds the stage at the Scranton Cultural Center, conducts a light check, a sound check, and a cast rehearsal before the show takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. If you’ve never seen a show built from a bare stage to full scenery, you’d be amazed at how they manage to get it done in just a few hours. I’ve often thought it would be a great idea to host an event where ticket holders can sit in on some or all of the load-in to see what goes into bringing Broadway magic to our city. What happens before the show is truly fascinating!
Once the stage is set, our wonderful volunteer ushers gather at the theatre to receive their assignments, ensuring everyone is seated properly for the performance. This task is an art, as the doors open approximately 30 minutes before the performance begins. We have just 30 minutes to get everyone in their seats with Playbills in hand, ready to enjoy the show. Once the curtain rises, the magic of theatre unfolds, with (hopefully) a full house ready to be transported to another world that only live theatre can create.
Upcoming Spring Performances

Speaking of full houses, I would be remiss if I didn’t encourage you to get your tickets for our remaining shows—Dear Evan Hanson (April 4-6) and Mean Girls (May 16-18)—as soon as possible, as sales are starting to take off. I’d hate for you to miss these fantastic shows, which are touring in NEPA for the first time. We’ve already added an extra performance of Mean Girls on Sunday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. due to its popularity. The best seating is available for the Sunday evening show, but as you read this blog, there are still good seats for all remaining performances of Dear Evan Hansen and Mean Girls—if you act now. Aren’t you glad you read my blog all the way to the end?

Group Ticket Reservations
Finally, if you want to bring a group to either Dear Evan Hansen or Mean Girls, you can reserve group seats (10 or more people) today and don’t need to make the final payment for all seats until one month before the performance date. You can secure exact seating locations by calling the office at (570) 342-7784. We would love to host your group at these shows and are happy to answer any questions you may have about group seating.
