Trails, Creeks and Scenic Beauty
Chestnut Mountain Nature Preserve, located in Barrett Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, is a 479-acre natural area managed by The Buck Hill Conservation Foundation. This beautiful preserve offers visitors the opportunity to explore diverse ecosystems while enjoying the beautiful Pocono Mountains. It serves as a vital watershed for both Grissom and Buck Hill Creeks.
The preserve features a network of trails, including the blue-blazed 2.8-mile trail, with an additional red loop that extends the hike by 1.2 miles. The trails are moderately challenging, with a 400-foot elevation change and some steep sections, rocky terrain and occasional wet areas.
The preserve is open to the public daily from dawn until dusk and leashed dogs are welcome. Please remember to clean up after them and leave no trace.
Access to the preserve is available via a small parking area off Route 191.
