Originally built as the headquarters of the Lehigh Valley Coal Company, the King’s College Administration Building is a remarkable structure designed by renowned architect Daniel Burnham, whose other notable works include the iconic Flatiron Building in New York City. The building stands as a testament to Burnham’s architectural vision and its lasting impact on the landscape of Wilkes-Barre.
A distinctive feature of the building is its statue of Christ the King, designed by the celebrated sculptor Lawrence Russo. Born in Naples, Italy, Russo was a seventh-generation artist who made the Wyoming Valley his home in 1922. In addition to Christ the King, Russo’s work can be found adorning churches, public buildings, cemeteries, and monuments across the Wyoming Valley, as well as in other cities in Pennsylvania, New York, and beyond.
