A festive day of community, conservation, and outdoor fun honoring Pennsylvania’s River of the Year: The Delaware River

We stopped by Minisink Park in Smithfield Twp. yesterday to join the festivities honoring the Delaware River’s recognition as Pennsylvania’s 2025 River of the Year. This year marks a significant milestone—the river’s third time earning the title through a public vote, reaffirming just how cherished and vital it is to communities across the region. With over 2,900 votes cast, it’s clear that the Delaware holds a special place in the hearts of many.

The celebration captured more than just a win—it told the story of a river transformed. Once heavily polluted, the Delaware River now ranks among the cleanest and most scenic waterways in the country, thanks to decades of dedicated conservation work and community action. Yesterday’s event brought that inspiring journey to life.

From kayaking demonstrations and outdoor games to hands-on exhibits led by environmental educators, there were opportunities for all ages to learn, explore, and connect with the natural beauty of the river. Local musicians and performers added to the festive atmosphere, while vendors and local organizations reminded attendees just how important it is to shop local and protect our shared natural spaces.

This wasn’t just a celebration of a title—it was a joyful day of outdoor recreation, environmental pride, and community spirit.
