Enjoy New Art Exhibits, Unique Activities, Cool Fundraisers and More at the Everhart this Fall
As 2024 winds down, the Everhart Museum has plenty of educational programs, exhibitions, and more to cap a great year! Over the next few months, the museum will highlight regional talent both young and old, celebrate diverse cultures, host free seasonal festivities, and more.

Spotlighting Local Artists
As always, the Everhart is curating and hosting a variety of temporary art exhibitions, with a focus on local artists and historical connections in the coming months. Featuring paintings by Indian folk artist Mona Pande, Glimpses of Asian Indian Culture, open October 23 through 27, delves into the artistry of the Madhubani and Rajasthani styles. Pande, who resides in Northeastern Pennsylvania, has spent extensive time studying in India with masters of the traditions, lending special authenticity to her art. This limited-time exhibition coincides with a special community event on Saturday, October 26 encompassing food, lectures, demonstrations, music, and dance celebrating Indian traditions, all included with museum admission.

A Retrospective
Open November 21 through February 18, Herbert Simon: Painter…Sculptor…Printmaker… Master, a retrospective of the artist’s life’s work, presents the wide breadth of his prolific and diverse output in all facets of his artistic quest. Born in Nashville, TN, teaching and practicing throughout the United States, and finally settling in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Simon shifted from representationalism to pure abstraction, eventually settling on a place somewhere between the two. Having studied with leading figures of abstraction including Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell, and Phillip Guston in the mid-century, and highly inspired by the industrial landscape of Northeastern Pennsylvania and simple everyday objects later, Simon developed an approach encompassing both styles to satisfy his vision.

Traveling Exhibitions
Running November 14 through January 7, Through Darkness to Light, a traveling exhibition from the Mid-Atlantic Art Alliance, showcases the photography of Jeanine Michna-Bales, who has spent more than a decade meticulously researching “fugitive” slaves and the ways they escaped to freedom. While the unnumbered routes of the Underground Railroad encompassed countless square miles, the path Michna-Bales documented encompasses roughly 2,000 miles and is based off of actual sites, cities, and places that freedom-seekers passed through during their journey. This exhibition and associated programming will touch upon the local history of the Underground Railroad as well.

Events at the Everhart
A variety of events are on the slate to fulfill the Everhart’s mission in a fun and educational way. On Sunday, October 27, the Everhart Express returns to take passengers to the Dorflinger Factory Museum in White Mills, PA. The Everhart Express series features hassle-free excursions from the Museum to destinations through the Northeastern Pennsylvania region and beyond. For this trip, passengers will get to admire the beautiful fall foliage of the Pocono Mountains on the way to and from the Dorflinger Factory Museum, where the group will enjoy a docent-led tour of some of the finest glassware ever produced in the nation. Afterward, the Express stops for lunch at Wallenpaupack Brewing Company at nearby Lake Wallenpaupack.

Support the Everhart
The Everhart’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the second annual Everhart Uncorked, takes place Saturday, November 9. The evening will transport guests to the hills of Tuscany through a delectable four-course dinner, curated by Larry Nicolais, Jr. of Constantino’s Catering, paired with wines selected by acclaimed local wine importer Fred Magnotta. All will be set to a backdrop of fine music and art. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of exciting items and experiences available through a live auction and take home a bottle of top-shelf wine through a special cork pull raffle, with proceeds from this unforgettable event supporting the Everhart’s mission.

Partnerships
In partnership with WVIA Public Media, the Everhart is beginning a new series called WVIA Wednesdays at the Everhart, in which there will be a special screening of PBS programming in the Main Gallery each month. The kickoff is Wednesday, November 13 as we offer a sneak preview of the latest film by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and Dave McMahon: Leonardo Da Vinci. Learn about this inspired artist with scientific curiosity and the imagination of an inventor, and go inside the mind of this genius. This new series is programmed especially for senior citizens.

Snow Much Fun Community Day
On Sunday, December 8, the Everhart Museum will host its third annual Snow Much Fun Community Day, featuring free admission and a range of festive winter activities for all to enjoy. This event will celebrate cultural traditions from around the world through a variety of hands-on craft stations. Explore the joys of the holiday season as you participate in activities that highlight the significance of different cultural celebrations. From making paper Matryoshka dolls for the Russian New Year, to creating paper diyas for Diwali, to designing paper kinaras for Kwanzaa, each station offers a unique opportunity to learn and engage with diverse traditions.

2025 Scholastic Art Awards
Returning again this year, the Everhart Museum is proud to partner with the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers to host the 2025 Scholastic Art Awards for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region. The submission period is open now through January 6. As the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious awards program for creative teens, the Scholastic Art Awards provide an exceptional platform for young artists in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) across various mediums. The Gold Key Awards Exhibition, showcasing the works of all Gold Key and American Vision Award recipients, will take place in February.
