The Carbondale Historical Society and Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, sharing & celebrating the rich cultural and industrial history of Carbondale, PA. Founded in 1974 by six local educators, the society continues to serve as a vital resource for historical research, community education & public engagement. From the coal mining legacy to the Delaware and Hudson (D&H) Railroad, the organization ensures that Carbondale’s remarkable story is remembered for generations to come.
A Museum & Research Center for Public Exploration
Located on the third floor of Carbondale City Hall, the society’s museum features three public exhibition galleries that offer immersive displays on the city’s past. Visitors can explore exhibits on coal mining, railroads, local businesses, and community life through carefully curated artifacts and photographs.
