Wrap Up Summer with a Free, Family-Friendly Festival by the River

On Saturday, September 24, we stopped by Sweeney’s Beach in Scranton to check out LRCA Riverfest. This year’s festival aimed to celebrate the Lackawanna River Conservation Association’s 35th anniversary. The event also helped to raise awareness about local conservation efforts. It also gave the community an excuse to get out and enjoy one more sunny day on the river.

The day was filled with family-friendly activities, educational exhibits, music, food and so much more. Local favorite, Young Lion delivered one of their classic, roots-rock-reggae sets. Then, The Hot Club of Scranton featuring Roy Williams followed with a sunny dose of swingin’ jazz. Local vendors, El Buen Amigo, Feel Goodiez-Smoothie and Juice Bar and Purple Pepper Deli spent the day dishing out tasty eats.

And, for the main event, a raft of brightly decorated rubber duckies took to the river as part of the 25th annual Duck-A-Thon. Participants had the chance to win cash prizes as a way to support the LRCA’s mission to promote the conservation of the Lackawanna River.

We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a cool, sunny Saturday. And, if you missed it, don’t worry. We brought the old camera along to capture all the fun. Check it out!
