McDade Recreational Trail | Over 30 Miles of Hiking & Biking in Milford
The McDade Recreational Trail in Milford runs 31 miles through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. It offers scenic, year-round adventure. Stretching from Milford Beach to the Hialeah trailhead, the trail showcases forest views, quiet riverbanks and open farmland along the way. It’s ideal for hiking and biking in warmer months and for cross-country skiing when snow arrives in winter. Well-marked trailheads and parking areas make it easy to explore sections at your own pace.
Trail Experience for Every Level
The terrain ranges from smooth and flat to steep and rugged, making it suitable for all types of hikers and cyclists. From Milford Beach to Bushkill Village, most of the trail is rated easy to moderate and works for beginners. The section between White Pines and Dingmans Campground is steep and more difficult than other areas of the trail. Steep switchbacks near the park headquarters also add a challenge; a mountain bike is best for these portions.
Important Notes for Visitors
Leashed pets are allowed on most of the trail but not at Milford or Smithfield beaches during warmer months. They are also not allowed between Smithfield Beach and Hialeah from late spring through early fall. The section from Pittman Orchard to Conashaugh trailheads is closed December 15 to July 15 for eagle nesting. Always check the National Park Service website for updates before you go.
The McDade Recreational Trail in Bushkill offers a rewarding way to explore nature through every season and terrain type.
