Connecting Monroe County’s Storied Past with its Vibrant Present

This historical and cultural preservation organization keeps county history alive. The Monroe County Historical Association is a local hub of cultural education located within the famous Stroud Mansion.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the association’s many amenities. Guests can visit the beautifully restored 18th century Stroud Mansion. The Georgian mansion has become a symbol of the county’s rich history. Stand at the head of the class in the adorable, one-room Bell School. And check the incoming train schedule at the Driebe Freight Station.

For more curious visitors, the association also maintains the Elizabeth D. Walters Research Library. Search through old newspapers and local genealogical information. If you have the time, you can find just about anything at the research library.

Be sure to look for ongoing exhibits displayed regularly in the Stroud Mansion. And don’t miss the small gift shop. Visitors can purchase local books, ornaments, maps and many other items related to county history.
