Susquehanna Riverlands | Wildlife, Trails & River Views in Berwick
The Susquehanna Riverlands in Berwick is a 1,200-acre public park offering scenic trails, Susquehanna River access and rich wildlife habitats. Open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, the Riverlands provide year-round opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, fishing and peaceful relaxation. With paved and dirt trails winding through forests, wetlands and along the river, this nature retreat is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts across Northeastern PA.
Designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society, the park is home to over 230 bird species. It’s also a featured stop on the Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail. Visitors can follow self-guided nature trails or relax at picnic areas, Lake Tookawhile, or along the historic North Branch Canal. Interpretive signs help visitors learn more about the land’s ecology and history.
Trail options range from short walks like the 0.5-mile Beaver Trail to longer treks such as the 2.8-mile Susquehanna Riverlands Loop. The park also serves as a southern access point for the 12.5-mile Susquehanna Warrior Trail. Seasonal events, craft fairs and artifact exhibits add to the experience.

The park offers picnic shelters, benches, parking areas, and a boat launch at the Wetlands Nature Area. It’s located just off Route 11 across from the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station at 634 Salem Blvd in Berwick.
