The Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins, affectionately known as the “Baby Pens,” have been thrilling hockey fans across NEPA since 1999 as the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Home games are played at the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township, where fans gather to cheer on rising stars and experience all the action, energy, and excitement of professional hockey.
Decked out in jerseys and waving signs, loyal supporters pack the arena every season—joined by Tux the Penguin, the team’s beloved and always-entertaining mascot. Over the years, the Baby Pens have built a legacy of competitive success, making 15 consecutive appearances in the Calder Cup Playoffs and advancing to the championship round three times.
The franchise has also played a key role in developing NHL talent, with many future stars beginning their careers in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton. One of the arena’s most memorable moments came ahead of the 2009–2010 season, when it hosted the inaugural Penguins Black and Gold Game, bringing together members of both Penguins teams, including superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
