Snap Frame-Worthy Foliage Pics on these Colorful Autumn Hikes
Now that we’ve officially washed our hands of summer, it’s time to slip back into fall mode. And there’s no easier way to welcome the change of seasons than with a few scenic hikes at NEPA’s local, state and national parks. Get back into that apple pickin’-sweater-wearin’-leaf-chasin’ mood by loading up the social feed with stunning splashes of orange, yellow and red.
Let’s lace up those hiking boots. Pull out the puffy vests. Leash up our little buddies and make one quick stop at the coffee shop. We’ve got cool autumn air on the brain and the sound of crunchy leaves rattling in our memories. So, throw together a pot of soup. Head outside and get those steps in. And earn yourself a cozy evening by the fire.
We’ve rounded up a handful of awesome fall hikes throughout NEPA. From cascading waterfalls and foggy forests to lakes like mirror glass and of course those gorgeous trees, you won’t have to go far to get your regular dose of fall.
Lake View Trail — Tuscarora State Park
Enjoy a scenic autumn stroll along the lake at Tuscarora State Park in Barnesville, PA. The 2.3-mile Lake View Trail features benches, picnic tables and beautiful fall views from the top of the dam.
Lake Trail — Aylesworth Park
Plan a picnic and a leisurely autumn hike along the lake at Aylesworth Park in Jermyn. Enjoy stunning foliage views and a colorful panorama of the rolling hills of Lackawanna County.
Shoreline Trail — Mauch Chunk Lake Park
Take in the crisp autumn air and the vibrant, changing leaves along the 345-acre lake at Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe. Enjoy several trails and plenty of park activities throughout the season.
Falls Trail — Ricketts Glen State Park
Hike from one waterfall to the next on the popular, 7.2-mile Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen State Park in Benton. Aside from the 21 waterfalls, stop for colorful foliage views overhead ad you pass through the steep trailside cliffs.
Lake Scranton Walking Trail — Lake Scranton
The 3.5-mile Lake Scranton Walking Trail loops around scenic Lake Scranton and features a level, paved path and gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and foliage.
Walking Trail — South Abington Recreation Park
Bring your furry friends along for an easy walk on this popular, paved trail at South Abington Recreation Park in South Abington Twp. The meticulously clean trail also features two covered bridges.
Little Rocky Glen Preserve
Explore the short, easy trails alongside roaring Tunkhannock Creek at Little Rocky Glen Preserve in Factoryville, PA. Start with sweeping gorge views from the upper trail and work your way down for a tranquil, creekside respite.
Bike Trail — Merli-Sarnoski Park
Pack the camera for beautiful autumn views of the 35-acre lake and surrounding mountain top scenery at Merli-Sarnoski Park in Fell Twp. The 8-mile Bike trail offers a little bit of everything for hikers and mountain bikers.
Blueberry Trail — Dick & Nancy Eales Nature Preserve
Enjoy clear mountain top views and vibrant foliage at the Dick and Nancy Eales Preserve on Moosic Mountain in Jessup, PA. The 3.4-mile Blueberry Trail creates a loop around almost the entire preserve.
McDade Trail — Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Experience a little bit of everything from riverside foliage to sweeping ridgetop views on the McDade Recreational Trail at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Bushkill, PA. The 30-mile trail traverses almost the entire park and can be accessed at various trailheads.
