Few things in NEPA scream autumn more than a bushel of orchard-fresh apples. Sure, we’re all about hoppin’ on that pumpkin spice train, but once those first few chilly evenings roll around, it’s apple time. Overnight, our minds turn from summer fun to sweet Macintosh, crunchy Honeycrisp and tart Granny Smith to name a few. Soon, we’re pulling out pie pans and dusting off our favorite cider mugs.
Apple season in NEPA is a serious business. And our small, family-run orchards, farm stores and produce stands are standing by just about every variety you can imagine. Whether you’re grabbing a bushel on the run or making a day of it at a pick-your-own orchard, we’ve got you covered with this list of places to find fresh, local apples all season long.
Dallas, PA
This family-run apple orchard is one of the oldest in the area with roots going all the way back to 1828. Visit the farm store to pick up a basket of apples, plus other fall treats like cider, pies and their famous donuts. They’re also offering apple wagon rides every weekend through October.
Brodheadsville, PA
Stop by this family farm stand in the Poconos for a little taste of the autumn harvest. They offer fresh, local produce, including their own delicious apples and refreshing cider.
Noxen, PA
This farm grows over a dozen different varieties of apples. Pick up a basket at their roadside stand, and while you’re there, check out other fall favorites like fresh-pressed cider, plump pumpkins and vibrant mums.
Wapwallopen, PA
Fall is the busiest time of the year at this family farm—in fact, they pick about 40,000 bushels of apples every year. The orchard has been growing crisp, juicy apples since 1919, and they currently have over 20 varieties to choose from.
Pine Grove, PA
This roadside farm stand and winery sells all sorts of seasonal produce, including their own apples and cool, refreshing cider. Make sure to taste their handcrafted wines and hard ciders too.
Pitman, PA
Nothing beats homegrown apples, fresh-pressed cider and warm apple pies from Kenny Stehr and Sons Farm. Visit their farm market and stick around for fall fun like pumpkin picking, a corn maze and a petting zoo on Fridays and Saturdays.
Lake Ariel, PA
Klim’s has been in business since 1932, and they still hand-pick each and every apple to this day. They offer 14 varieties, from classics like McIntosh and Golden Delicious to tasty new flavors like Zestar.
Scott Township, PA
This u-pick apple orchard has over 20,000 trees and 30 varieties to choose from. While you’re there, sip some brews at the Cider Garden, try your hand at axe throwing and listen to live music.
Sugarloaf, PA
This 250-acre farm is full of fall fun. Pick up a basket of fresh apples, a jug of cider and homemade baked goods at the farm store. They also have family activities like a corn maze, pumpkin patch, farm animals and more.
Clarks Summit, PA
The Miller family planted their first apple tree over 125 years ago. Now the eighth generation is keeping the legacy alive. Miller’s uses sustainable, eco-friendly practices, so each bite is naturally delicious.
