A passion for building confidence and self discipline.

Jae Nam Training Arts Academy was started in January 2011 by Nick Acri. Nick is a 5th-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and has earned the title of Master in the World from the Tang Soo Do Association. Originally, Nick shared space with another fitness studio on Market Street in Kingston, but, eventually, his business grew and moved to a location on Wyoming Ave next to Rainbow Jewelers. Today, the studio is located at 165 W Union St, Kingston.

Nick started training in martial arts, specifically Tang Soo Do, at the age of 15. He was hooked from the first day he set foot in the studio. Through the years, he worked through the color belts, eventually making it to the black belt. One of the duties of a black belt is to assist with the teaching of other students. Nick found that he enjoyed helping people discover the numerous benefits of martial arts as he did, and eventually channeled that passion into a new business endeavor.

Nick grew up in this area and is a graduate of Dallas High School and the University of Scranton. When he started in martial arts, he was grateful to have an activity that I enjoyed. When his local instructor had to close, there were no other studios in the Kingston/Wilkes-Barre area. When he had the opportunity to open his own studio in this area, he says “the decision was clear.”

Becoming your best self.

Jae Nam Training Arts Academy teaches the traditional Korean martial art, Tang Soo Do. They also offer Ki Gong, which is a mix of gentle movements and meditation.

“At Jae Nam, our ultimate goal is to help individuals develop their best selves. We offer a welcoming and supportive environment to train in the martial art we specialize in using it as a vehicle to build the confidence and self-discipline needed to achieve their goals,” says Nick.

When the pandemic hit and they weren’t able to have physical classes, they pivoted to teaching online via Facebook live and private Zoom lessons. Since then, they continue to have video resources available for our students and eventually plan to have an online Ki Gong course available. Their martial arts classes are only taught at the studio currently.
