Harveys Lake | Scenic adventure & lakeside living in Luzerne County

Harveys Lake in Luzerne County’s Back Mountain region is a beloved outdoor destination and the largest natural lake by volume in Pennsylvania. Located just outside the Greater Wilkes-Barre Area, this 621-acre glacial lake offers year-round recreation against a backdrop of scenic mountain views. Harveys Lake plunges over 100 feet deep, providing crisp, clear water ideal for everything from kayaking to ice fishing.

Lakeside Drive, an 8.2-mile road that wraps around the lake, is popular for walking, biking and scenic drives—especially in the fall. During summer, Harveys Lake is a hub for swimming, boating, paddleboarding and some of NEPA’s best fishing. The annual Back Mountain Triathlon brings athletes together for a thrilling race along the shoreline. In winter, the lake draws anglers for ice fishing and locals for lakeside walks through the snow-covered landscape.

A Welcoming Community with Local Flavor

Whether you’re visiting for the day or staying long-term, Harveys Lake offers something for everyone. The community includes both year-round residents and seasonal visitors who come for its peaceful vibe and outdoor lifestyle. The lake is home to a yacht club, private beaches and a fitness club, offering plenty of ways to stay active. Dining options range from casual favorites to local legends like Grotto Pizza and Jones’ Potato Pancakes.

With endless lake views, year-round activities and a tight-knit community, Harveys Lake is a treasured destination in the NEPA region.
