Hawley Trail | Scenic History Walk Along the Lackawaxen River in the Pocono Mountains

The Hawley Trail offers a scenic and educational 5.5-mile journey through the natural beauty and historic charm of the Pocono Mountains town of Hawley. Beginning at the D&H Canal Park at Lock 31, this multi-use trail follows the canal’s historic towpath before linking with paths through Hawley’s Bingham Park and Riverside Park. From there, the trail winds through the quaint streets of downtown Hawley and continues on toward Lake Wallenpaupack, offering visitors impressive views of the Lackawaxen River and the Poconos.

This accessible trail system highlights Hawley’s rich cultural heritage with interpretive signage along the trail route. Learn about the area’s industrial roots, including the days of railroads and textile mills, as well as its more recent transformation into a Pennsylvania tourism hub. The trail not only serves as a recreational path but also as a living story of the region’s past.

Developed by the Wayne-Pike Trails and Waterways Alliance, this project is part of a growing network of trails that aims to connect more paths along the river for walkers, runners, outdoor enthusiasts, and history lovers alike.
