Kick Back on Lake Time at Lake Carey

Nestled in the scenic heart of the Endless Mountains near Tunkhannock, Lake Carey offers a peaceful and picturesque retreat year-round. This 182-acre lake is a favorite destination in Wyoming County for those seeking outdoor adventures in the Endless Mountains, lakeside relaxation, and small-town charm just a short drive from downtown Tunkhannock.

Summer Fun on the Water

During the summer months, Lake Carey buzzes with activity. Locals and vacationers alike take to the water for boating, jet skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming. Docks line the shore, inviting sunbathers and swimmers to enjoy a refreshing dip. The lake’s calm waters also make it a perfect place for leisurely canoe trips or catching a brilliant Endless Mountains sunset.

Year-Round Outdoor Recreation

Lake Carey isn’t just a summer spot—it’s a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. When winter rolls in, the lake transforms into a winter playground, ideal for ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cozy lakeside getaways. It’s a beautiful spot to enjoy a scenic winter walk, especially when the snow-dusted hills reflect off the frozen lake.

Fishing & Boating Access

Anglers are drawn to Lake Carey for its healthy population of bass, panfish, and other freshwater species. Frank’s Marina on Marina Drive offers public boat launch access and parking for a small fee, making it easy to hit the water with your rod and reel.

Local Charm & Events

Lined with full-time homes and charming summer cottages, most of the shoreline is privately owned, but the lake community is welcoming. Dozens of vacation rentals are available, ranging from rustic cabins to elegant historic homes.

Each year, the community comes together for Lake Carey Day, held the last weekend in July. The event features footraces, kayak and canoe races, a poker run, music, raffles, bingo, and a delicious chicken barbecue—making it a must for your NEPA summer bucket list.
