A Picturesque Hike in the Delaware State Forest
Set in the Delaware State Forest, the Painter’s Swamp trail gives hikers great views of the pond and plenty of beavers. The trail is moderately challenging and takes about an hour to complete. It’s popular for bird-watching, beaver-watching, and hiking, but travelers can still find peace and quiet at the right time of day. The best time to walk on the trail is anywhere from March to November, but the colors are most beautiful in the fall.
Deserving of its name, Painter’s Swamp offers hikers a stunning and tranquil experience. Hike it as part of the Big Bear Swamp loop or visit just to see the pond and its many beavers in all their glory. Fishing is permitted on the pond, and leashed dogs are welcome.
