Sylvan Lake: A Pristine Mountain Lake for Year-Round Adventure
Sylvan Lake, a stunning 81.5-acre private lake in Ross Township, offers an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts and anglers alike. Nestled just 20 miles west of Wilkes-Barre, this glacier-formed, teardrop-shaped lake is a hidden gem. With limited development and a largely forested shoreline, the lake remains a peaceful, natural retreat. Kayaking on Sylvan Lake offers a peaceful experience on its glacier-formed waters.
Fishing Year-Round
Sylvan Lake is renowned for its excellent fishing opportunities throughout the year. In the summer, anglers can enjoy boat fishing for bass, walleye, pickerel, and catfish. Winter brings exciting ice fishing opportunities, attracting hardy anglers with species like perch, black crappie, bluegills, and stocked trout.
During the colder months, the lake transforms into a hub for ice fishing and winter sports, offering a serene escape with breathtaking mountain views. Whether you’re casting your line or exploring the snow-covered shoreline, Sylvan Lake is the perfect destination for winter fun.
Access & Parking
Public access to the lake is available through the PA Fish & Boat Commission’s boat launch, which also serves as the entry point for ice fishing. The launch has parking for up to a dozen cars, making it easy to get out on the water or ice. While the lake is surrounded by private property, the PFBC boat launch ensures that visitors can enjoy all that Sylvan Lake has to offer.
