Make the Most of Your Last Few Summer Weekends
Typically, the end of August in NEPA means it’s time for the summer slowdown. A few wild months of fun in the sun catches up to us and, before you know it, we’re glued to Adirondack chairs, counting lightning bugs and looking back on another awesome summer.
Still, we’re not even close to being done. School might be back in session, but we’ve got a handful of warm weather weekends left and a whole unchecked list of cool sights to see and things to do. So, get out there and squeeze every last bit of fun out of this summer with a few more adventures and activities.
Pocono Whitewater – Jim Thorpe, PA
Gather a group of friends and family for an adrenaline-pumping trip down the Lehigh River. Hit the water on a family-style rafting adventure. Test your courage on a dam-release weekend, or take on other boats in a pirate rafting adventure.
Local, State & National Parks
You won’t have to travel far for a quick weekend escape. NEPA’s parks feature miles upon miles of carefully maintained hiking trails. Take it all in from waterfalls and wildlife to epic views and unmatched tranquility.
NEPA’s Top Mini Golf Courses
Pack up the kids and head out for a round of this consummate summer classic. Putt your way through all of NEPA’s amazing mini golf courses. And, whether or not you keep score, the first round of ice cream is on you.
NEPA’s Drive-In Movie Theaters
Few NEPA pastimes scream summer more than a night at the drive-in. Luckily, we have four incredible theaters right here in our own backyard. Pack up the car with your favorite snacks and catch a picture show under the stars.

It’s no secret. You’ve been scarfing down ice cream all summer. But soon, some of those seasonal shops are going dark. Get out there and check off as many as you can from our convenient list of sweet frozen treats.

Pocono Biking – Jim Thorpe, PA
Grab a bike and hit the trail for a 25-mile journey through the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park. Follow the mighty Lehigh River on this scenic, 3-to-5-hour, downhill cruise past waterfalls and relics of NEPA’s railroad history.
Summit Adventure Park at Blue Mountain Resort – Palmerton, PA
Embark on a night time treetop adventure at this activity-packed resort in Palmerton. Grab some glowsticks and climb your way to the top of an awesome ropes course. Then, strap in and zip your way back down. The event runs every Saturday night through the end of September.
Pocono Action Sports – Greentown, PA
Spend one last summer day cruising around Lake Wallenpaupack in a spacious pontoon boat. Or, grab the life jacket and take to the water on a paddle board. Or, bring the tackle box, hop on a fishing boat and spend a day chasing after the big one.
