Two Mountains, Endless Adventure

Winter in NEPA has us heading for the hills. Thanks to the majestic mountains and cold wintery-weather conditions, our region is home to some of the most popular ski resorts in the country, including sister-slopes, Jack Frost and Big Boulder. High peaks and steep slopes, fresh powder and expertly groomed hills make these two resorts a winter playground for every snow lover, from experienced snowboarders to beginner skiers and everyone in between. Located just ten minutes apart, one lift ticket grants you access to 38 trails, 3 terrain parks and lighting-fast snowtube lanes that make for a world-class ski resort experience.

Jack Frost Ski Resort

Celebrating their 50th season in 2023, Jack Frost is one of two magical mountain experiences located just 30-45 minutes from Wilkes-Barre and Scranton in White Haven. Situated in the heart of the Pocono Mountains near the stunning Lehigh River, Jack Frost provides top-notch conditions for every level of skier and rider.

With a peak elevation height of 2,000 feet, skiers drop 600 feet to the base elevation of 1,400 feet as they race down the slopes. The mountain features 20 trails, including 8 black diamond trails, 7 blue difficult trails and 4 green easier trails. If thrills are what you’re looking for, their terrain park has you covered. Snowboarders and skiers can enjoy catching air or riding the rails in this fun and challenging freestyle terrain. There are also 6 lifts suitable for quads, triples, and doubles, plus one surface lift available for quick and convenient transportation back to the summit.

Big Boulder Ski Resort

As the first commercial ski resort in PA since 1947, Big Boulder in Lake Harmony has stood the test of time as one of the best slopes in the East. The mountain offers thrill seekers plenty of opportunity to blaze a trail in the freshest snow.

Advanced skiers can hop on one of the resorts 6 lifts and drop in at a max elevation of 2,175 feet before zipping 475 feet down the mountain to the base. Big Boulder features 18 trails, including 7 black diamond trails, 3 intermediate blue trails and 6 green beginner-grade trails. When night falls over the slopes, the real fun starts! Enjoy night skiing and tubing under the lights for a truly magical experience. And get stoked because the resort features not one but two terrain parks, allowing you to break out your tricks and show off your buttery skills.

Snow Tubing

Big Boulder’s tube park is bigger and bubly-er than ever. Their freshly-turned snow tube lanes, in collaboration with bubly beverages, feature brand-new tubes in fun bubly colors. Plus, glowing lights make for epic after-dark dashes down the tube slopes. And the best part – you don’t have to trudge back up the hill. Two conveyer carpets will take you from base to summit quickly so you can hop back on your tube and do it again and again! The resort’s snow tube park accommodates single riders as well as separate family tubing lanes.

Lessons and Rentals

Whether it’s your first time skiing or you’re looking to brush up on your rusty skills, both Jack Frost and Big Boulder have experienced staff on hand to expertly guide you before hitting the slopes. If you prefer to learn to ski or snow board in a private lesson or a group setting, they have plenty of options. But don’t wait. It’s best to book your lessons in advance to ensure your spot. For young skiers, group ski lessons begin at age 4, while group snow board lessons start at age 7. For adults, unlock more of the mountain with lessons to improve your technique, boost your confidence and refine your skills.

Ski and snowboard equipment rentals are available at both resorts. They carry everything you need for a day on the mountain. From gear like skis, boards, boots, poles and helmets to essential supplies like jackets, gloves, goggles and hats, you can find it all in one place. And if you’re hopping from one resort to the other, simply turn your rentals in at the first spot and pick up new equipment at the next resort at no additional charge.

Dining at JFBB

When you need a break from the mountain or you’re ready to call it a day, both resorts feature a wide variety of food and beverage options. From grab-and-go cafeterias to sit down restaurants to taco and burrito bars, you can refuel, relax and unwind in one of their many dining options.
