As 2023 winds down, the Everhart Museum is set for a slate of programs, exhibitions, and events. With a variety of experiences in natural history, science, and art to take part in, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy!

Returning for its second year is Snow Much Fun Community Day on Saturday, December 16. Celebrate the holiday season with FREE admission all day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a host of FREE holiday and winter-themed arts and crafts, entertainment, live music, activities, and more. As with all community days the Museum offers throughout the year, Snow Much Fun is a thank you to the Northeastern Pennsylvania community for its continued support throughout the year and a great way for kids and adults to get into the seasonal spirit!

For those looking for quality art museum experiences right in Scranton, PA, the Everhart is set to open a new exhibition and long-term gallery in the waning days of the year.

Opening Thursday, November 9, Every Four Years: Looking Back, Looking Forward delves into the Everhart’s collection of prints and paintings that present political connections to tie into the upcoming presidential primary season. Also including ephemera such as political pins, posters, and flyers from past primary and presidential campaigns, this exhibition highlights the famous, the infamous, and the forgotten, along with eventual winners and losers in the race for the White House. Artists include Will Barnett, Jacob Lawrence, Audrey Flack, Alex Katz, and more.

Just before the holidays and preceding the Museum’s annual January closure for routine upkeep and gallery work, the Everhart’s prestigious American Folk Art Gallery returns Thursday, December 20, thanks to a generous gift from the Oppenheim Family Foundation. Drawing from a world-class collection of folk art, the gallery will present a snapshot of nearly a century’s-worth of collected items. Examples of portraits and landscapes, furniture, weathervanes, farming utensils, quilts, coverlets, crock pots, home dining implements, and ceremonial testaments will fill the gallery, which will change on a regular basis to showcase different themes and items from the collection. Aside from the many vintage pieces on view, there will be a section featuring contemporary folk artists as well.

On Saturday, November 4, the Everhart hosts its first major fundraiser since pre-COVID: Everhart Uncorked, a food and wine pairing event. As the event has proven even more popular than anticipated, it is already sold out! Thanks to all attending, sponsoring, and supporting this event! While we wish we could accommodate everyone who wants to join us, the exciting news is that this success ensures that the Everhart stays vital in serving its mission of providing impactful experiences to people throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. As we move forward into next year and expand our events, there will be many opportunities to attend such events, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, there are plenty of other ways to support the Museum by visiting, donating, or just spreading the word. One such way is by attending the second annual Planned Giving Tea on Monday, December 11. During this free event, Scott Lynett, Esq. will discuss all aspects of legacy planning and answer any questions participants may have. Guests will enjoy complimentary tea and light fare.
