This Season at the Everhart Museum -- Winter 2024

Reset. Refresh. Prepare.

As with every new year, the Everhart Museum utilizes the month of January to reset, refresh its galleries, and prepare exciting new exhibitions, educational programs, and events before reopening in February. We’re excited to share some of what we have coming up to kick off 2024!

In observation of Black History Month, Permanent Echoes: Reflections on Black History opens along with the Museum on Thursday, February 1 and is on view through May 5.

This special exhibition serves as an acknowledgement of the people who have had a lasting impact on not only Black history, but also history in general. Names listed on banners throughout the gallery are of those who contributed to society in the realms of science, entrepreneurship, entertainment, sports, education, politics, and more. This immersive installation invites visitors to recognize the individuals included and view themselves in the context of the history represented in this space.

Also opening February 1 and on view through May 24 is Perception >=< Perspective.

In this exhibition, there aren’t any discussions of the work, or the artist. The interpretation is left to the viewer. The Everhart curatorial staff has chosen these works based on our interpretation of how they may connect. However, you are the moderator of your feelings toward the works. It is your perception, your perspective.

The Everhart is proud to once again host the Scholastic Art Awards for the NEPA region in 2024 and the accompanying Gold Key Award Exhibition.

Open April 4–28, this exhibition showcases the work of all Gold Key Award recipients for the NEPA Region of the Scholastic Art Awards, an annual juried multimedia art contest for students Grades 7–12 that have been facilitated by the Everhart since 2018.

As for educational programs and events, we kick off the year celebrating the spirit of Valentine’s Day with two special offerings on Saturday, February 10.

Yoga for Self-Love @ the Everhart from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. invites you to practice Vinyasa yoga with Mindy Hill of Yoga with Mindy in the Museum’s Main Gallery in presence of the sculpture of Venus, the Goddess of Love. What better way to embrace the day than to take an inward journey and love and care for your body and your mind? The $10 registration includes Museum entry after class.

From 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on February 10, children Grades 1–5 can take a journey back in time as we explore the magic of Valentine’s Day with Everhart Expressions: Vintage Valentine Card Creation.

Let your children immerse themselves in a world of creativity, history, and timeless expressions of love, accompanied by the heartwarming story of How to Help a Cupid. Through a combination of storytelling, creative activities, and close-up encounters with historical artifacts, children will discover the artistry and sentimentality of Valentine’s Day celebrations from yesteryears. The cost is $10 per child, $5 for Museum members.

On Thursday, February 29 from 5:00–6:30 p.m., the Everhart hosts Wine, Wills, and a Living Legacy with estate planning attorney Scott Lynett, Esq.

During the free event, which features wine and light fare, Lynett will discuss ways to give that benefit the cause you’re passionate about and you. This includes contributions to the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, gifts of stock or property, one-time or recurring donations, inclusions in wills, and more.

The Everhart is planning several exciting fundraising events for 2024, the first major event being the second annual Gaelic Gathering at the Everhart in April. Get ready to celebrate Irish traditions at this fun 21 and older Irish-themed event including food, drinks, and entertainment. Stay tuned for more information and the opening of registration.
