Chilly Autumn Weather Inspires Hearty Beers from NEPA’s Local Craft Breweries
Regardless of how you square it, autumn in Northeastern Pennsylvania is simply perfection. The weather is just right. Everyone’s getting’ all hyped on football and making pots of chili. And we’re ready to fill the fridge with brewery-fresh fall beers.
Right about now, all along the DiscoverNEPA Brewer’s Loop, you’ll find an abundance of seasonal brews. We’re talking darker, malty ambers, red ales, brown ales, velvety porters and stouts — hell, even pumpkin ales make the cut. We made the rounds, talked to the brewers and put together a list.
There’s really little left for you to do but lace up the boots, throw on some flannel and a blanket scarf (yes, they’re back!) and get out there. NEPA’s breweries are ready. And they’ve got a few, tasty fall beers waiting for you.
Brea’s Nuts
Nut Brown Ale / ABV: 4.7%
“Inspired by the beautiful Brea herself! This Nut Brown Ale is delicately brewed exposing a nutty aroma with faint malt and hop flavors. The malts lend a soft but pronounced body making it a delightfully balanced beer.”
Brown Ale – Wet Hopped
English Style Brown Ale (Wet Hopped) / ABV: 5.5%
“This is a classic English brown ale uses freshly picked hops from our friends at Murphy’s Hop Yard in Effort, PA. The hops are used within 24hrs of being picked. This year we used over 50lbs of fresh Chinook hops.”
Troubled Bones
Pumpkin Stout / ABV: 6.1%
“The dark, rich body of our pumpkin stout comes from roasted malts, a blend of fall spices and blackstrap molasses. Boasting notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, “Bones” is ideal for sipping on a chilly fall night.”
Groovy Pecan Pie
Brown Ale / ABV: 6.1%

Hazy Pumpkin Ale / ABV: 6.5%

Frankenstein’s Chick
Pumpkin Chai Milkshake IPA / ABV: 6.66%
“Milkshake IPA with roasted orange hubbards and chai! Contains absolutely no pumpkin spice.”
Baby Bear
Brown Ale / ABV: 5%

Märzen
Amber Lager / ABV: 5.4%

Toboggan
Chocolate Doppelbock / ABV: 8%
“The perfect end to a winter day, this rich amber lager is brewed with Munich, Crystal and Chocolate Malts, cocoa and finished with Hallertau hops for a malty yet balanced beer. Toboggan will be available the week before Thanksgiving.”
Hawley’s Comet
West Coast IPA / ABV: 6.5%
“A West Coast IPA brewed with Comet, El Dorado, and Simcoe hops. West Coast bitterness up front is followed by flavors of grapefruit, melon, and pine. Flaked oats create a smooth body that balances out the hops.”
