Washington, D.C. is a city that boasts a rich history, culture, and vibrant energy. Accessible in 3-5 hours from anywhere in NEPA, it’s the perfect distance for a fun getaway. To make the most of everything D.C. has to offer, we recommend making this excursion an overnight trip. We outlined some must-see stops to help you make the most of your visit to the nation’s capital.

There’s no shortage of bustling bars and restaurants in downtown D.C. as well. Three awesome spots to check out are Hi-Lawn, Iron Gate Restaurant, and Madam’s Organ. Iron Gate Restaurant is one of D.C.’s oldest continually operating restaurants, offering Italian and Greek small plates in a Mediterranean dining setting. It’s split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio, and an enclosed carriageway that houses the bar. Madam’s Organ is a popular spot for live music and dancing. This eclectic bar has become known for its impressive blues, soul, and rock performances over the last 30 years.

Of course, you have to make your way to the Washington Monument.

From there, walk along the National Mall to the Lincoln Memorial. The Reflecting Pool creates a stunning view, perfect for photos. Not too far from those iconic spots is the WWII Memorial, so take a moment to appreciate the sacrifices made. Stroll by The White House for a glimpse of the President’s residence and the vast, meticulously-kept property.

End your nights with some good drinks, laughter, and great company.

If you want a more engaging (and competitive) night-time scene, stop by Players Club for a retro-chic basement bar and lounge filled with arcade games, pool, and more. If you like more light-hearted, feel-good fun, get tickets for a comedy show at hot spots like the D.C. Improv Comedy Club. This venue features some of the city’s top comedians, and it’s a great way to enjoy the evening hours with friends. Afterwards, check out The Midlands Beer Garden.
