Shop, Dine & Celebrate in Downtown Scranton!
It’s a magical time of year in the Electric City and our Downtown Scranton Business District sparkles with holiday lights and activities. That’s why we love our annual holiday campaign and event series, Deck the Downtown. Presented by PNC Bank, Deck the Downtown runs through January 3, 2025. Click here for more information and a list of participating businesses. You’ll feel good about supporting local and have fun, too, with a host of holiday initiatives, including:
Magical Window Displays
Celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, the Holiday Window Showcase features magical window displays in dozens of businesses in Downtown Scranton! The showcase officially opens the night before Thanksgiving, on the same day as the WEJL Tower Lighting Celebration. Enjoy the festivities at the WEJL Tower Lighting Celebration in the 100 and 200 blocks of Penn Avenue from noon to 6 p.m., then round out your visit to Downtown with a self-guided tour of the Holiday Window Showcase by car or on foot. Click here to find window displays.
Did you know the Holiday Window Showcase is a competition? Businesses vie for top honors in a number of categories. The only design requirement is that lights are incorporated into the displays, giving designers complete creative freedom. Winners will be announced on Friday, December 6, at the Lackawanna County Christmas Tree Lighting on Courthouse Square at 5 p.m. Be sure to stop by and cheer them on!
Shop ’til you Drop on Black Friday
Move over pre-Black Friday sales because we’re embracing the joy of a classic Black Friday on Black Friday (November 29) in Downtown Scranton.
Small Business Saturday just got bigger!
Scranton Tomorrow has organized Small Business Saturday promotions since American Express launched the national shop small movement in 2010. This year, the first 20 shoppers who make a purchase at participating businesses will receive a custom-made Shop Small, Scranton Tomorrow ornament, courtesy of Scranton Tomorrow, as a Deck the Downtown Doorbuster.
Visitors to the Downtown will also enjoy a new Holiday Jubilee at Christopher A. Doherty Park on the corner of Linden Street and Wyoming Avenue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Musicians from the NEPA Jazz Project will perform holiday favorites while families take pictures with Santa in the Downtown’s newest community greenspace.
