Skates, Brews, and Winter Views: Wally Ice Fest Returns to Kresswood Lake in the Poconos
A frozen lake in the Pocono Mountains sets the stage — skates cutting across the ice, music drifting from the shoreline, and a cold beer in hand. On Saturday, January 31st, Wally Ice Fest returned to Kresswood Lake in Newfoundland, PA, delivering a full day of pond hockey, winter games, and celebration. The fun continued through Sunday, carrying the festival well into the afternoon and proving that winter in NEPA is best spent outdoors with good company.
Under an open winter sky, dozens of teams took to the ice for the Pond Hockey Tournament, drawing players and spectators from throughout the Northeast. From first puck drop to final horn, the lake buzzed with energy as adults and kids cheered from the sidelines, the sound of sticks and skates echoing across the ice.
Beyond the rinks, the festival atmosphere came to life. Bonfires lined the pond, offering a place to warm up and swap stories between games, while live music kept the crowd moving throughout the day. A mix of winter-ready activities — including axe throwing, ice golf, cornhole, and keg curling — ensured there was always something happening off the ice.
Food vendors and local brews rounded out the experience, drawing crowds between the rinks and fire pits as laughter carried across the lake. With a frozen landscape as the backdrop and a strong sense of community throughout the weekend, Wally Ice Fest showcased winter in Northeastern PA at its most inviting.
Whether you’re a dedicated hockey player, a winter sports fan, or simply looking for a unique seasonal activity, Wally Ice Fest delivers a cold-weather celebration that captures the spirit of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
