Dating back to 1803, the Swetland Homestead offers visitors period rooms from the early 1800s to the 1860s. Step through the doors into the past and see a summer kitchen with an original fireplace. If you’re lucky, you may see a soldier sitting at the table as stew cooks.

A short walk down the hall is a step through time to the Victorian era. In just a few rooms, visitors travel through sixty years of American history.

Mark your calendars in fall and winter to attend Swetland’s most popular events, like the fall festival, Christmas candlelight tours and the annual car show. The fall festival includes food, baked goods, and a tour of the home. Historical reenactors from the 143rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment Company A often perform demonstrations. Young and old alike always enjoy the show!

The annual classic car show is free for spectators to see all kinds of cars: big cars, small cars, muscle cars, classic cars, and even race cars. If cars aren’t your favorite, Swetland is open year-round for appointment-only guided tours. Have a group? No problem! The Swetland Homestead also offers guided tours for children and adults.

The Swetland Homestead is just a few minutes from two other historical sites: the Forty Fort Meeting House and the Nathan Denison House.
