Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Pennsylvania is a nonprofit organization based in Wilkes-Barre that has been transforming young lives through one-to-one mentoring since 1974. With a mission to empower children to reach their full potential, the organization provides professionally supported mentorships to youth in Luzerne, Wyoming, Columbia, Monroe and Carbon counties—serving more than 500 children each year through various impactful programs.
Creating Meaningful Connections That Last
Rooted in the belief that every child has incredible potential, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Pennsylvania matches youth (“Littles”) with caring adult mentors (“Bigs”) who offer consistent guidance, encouragement and friendship. These relationships have been proven to foster personal growth, strengthen academic performance, and help youth develop the confidence to pursue their dreams. Matches are thoughtfully made and carefully supported by trained staff to ensure safety, trust and lasting impact.

The organization’s work is made possible through generous support from regional United Ways, federal and state grants, fundraising events, private donations and continued program development. This strong foundation of community investment enables Big Brothers Big Sisters to maintain high standards of service and expand its reach to more families and children in need of positive role models. For over five decades, their commitment has remained steadfast: to ignite the power and promise of youth through mentorship.
