Dinners for Kids | Fighting childhood hunger & delivering hope in Edwardsville
Dinners for Kids in Edwardsville provides healthy, ready-to-eat meals to at-risk children across Luzerne County. Founded in 2011 by Edna and David Tevet, former owners of Ollie’s Restaurant, this nonprofit was born from a simple but powerful mission: no child should go to bed hungry. With over 11,000 food-insecure children in the county, the program addresses a critical need by offering nutritious dinners and fresh fruit to kids six days a week, year-round.
How the Program Works
Each freshly prepared meal is made in a food-safe facility and delivered directly to a child’s home. Volunteers package and deliver two meals per child every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each meal is kid-approved, nutritionally balanced, and packaged for easy reheating. Dinners for Kids now reaches over 240 children in Wilkes-Barre, Dallas, and the West Side, distributing over 75,000 meals annually.
Expanding Impact & Community Recognition
Designed as a replicable model, Dinners for Kids partnered with Misericordia University and Metz Culinary Management in 2016 to expand services to the Back Mountain area. In 2021, the model launched in Monroe County, NY. The program has earned accolades, including national and state “Restaurant Neighbor” awards and community service recognition from state and local leaders.
