Food Dignity Project Inc. | Fighting Hidden Hunger & Supporting Sustainability in Forty Fort
Food Dignity Project Inc. in Forty Fort is redefining the way NEPA addresses hunger by combining compassion, sustainability, and community-driven action. Founded by registered dietitian and TEDx speaker Clancy Harrison, this 501c3 nonprofit is dismantling the stigma surrounding food insecurity and building grassroots solutions that support both people and local farmers.
At the heart of this movement is a powerful belief: hunger relief must come with dignity. Food Dignity advocates for equitable food access as a human right—not a privilege—and challenges systems that shame those in need. In a nation of abundance, no one should feel embarrassed to ask for help. Rather than relying solely on top-down aid, they are cultivating an inclusive culture of support in NEPA—one led by empowered communities and strengthened by our farmers.
Pay What You Can, Take What You Need
Their mission is exemplified by the signature “Take What You Need, Pay What You Can” Produce Program. This innovative year-round effort brings mobile farm stands to life in collaboration with municipalities like Duryea and Exeter. They also work with partners including PA CareerLink and the Cancer Wellness Center of NEPA.
Each pop-up market features just-picked local produce—often harvested that same morning—available to anyone. Through an anonymous envelope system, community members can take what they need and contribute what they can. The result is a welcoming, judgment-free space that nourishes individuals while strengthening the regional food economy.
